A Dollar & Some Change {Actually Just Change}

Winter is my mostest unfavorite time of the year.
The cold makes my muscles hurt.
The bareness of the landscape makes my eyeballs hurt.
The freezing cold water in the pool makes my fingers hurt.

I guess I combat this dislike by turning my eyes, muscles and fingers indoors.
I start to move furniture.
Switch things from room to room.
Plank walls.

You know how it goes.
{or maybe you don't. Just nod and smile then)

The boys bathroom was my first room to hone in on.
{Oh yes, there is more than one room getting the winter treatment)
When we first moved here I was all beachy and bright.
I got tired of beachy real quick.
Good thing I spent no money on it.
(By the way, you will see some "new" items in my Etsy store soon due to my redecorating)

Here is the way things are turning these days...

I painted the First Aid sign as a start to my never ending journey of decorating.
And redecorating.

The stool was from the goodwill.
It looked like it had been sitting in a germy old doctors office.
I painted it. Scuffed it. Sanded it. Treated the wood to make it look old.
(will be sharing more on that in another post)
The basket on the toilet holds an assortment of apothecary bottles and such.
All of that was gathered from my bedroom and other bathroom.

A little metal container I've had for years now holds extra rags.

I used a feedsack as a curtain.

A metal bucket holds their many toothbrushes.
What?
You're kids don't own a toothbrush for each tooth?
I love finding stuff around the house and sticking it in a new spot.
Makes it feel brand (old) again!

You can see what the bathroom used to look like here!

I also want to thank Houzz for featuring me here and here.

Touching Up The Bathroom

So Kristin over at My Uncommon Slice Of Suburbia (What? You haven't visited her! Go do it now!) just did a post on beachy bathrooms, including my humble little boys room. It reminded me to share a few things I've tweaked in there recently.
I got a few of these old mason jars at Antique Alley and have had fun putting them in various places.

Of course my new peice of artwork that I love in here. Speaking of, I'll share a little secret.... My new Etsy store will be opening soon with all kinds of burlap artwork. Stay tuned!

This idea was stolen from another blog and I wish I could remember who it was. (let me know if you've done this!) I took a bottle and wrapped it in twine, just using Elmers Glue to hold it in place. (still plan on painting this shelf sometime!)

Changed the curtain from white to a linen color. It looks darker in this picture, but anyway...

The great things with bathrooms is that you only have to add a few things to set your theme. Make sure you pick them carefully or you'll have a totally different look then you wanted because of one or two accessories.

My giveaway ends tonight so add your name to my followers then leave me a comment! I'll let everyone know tomorrow who the lucky new captain is!
Don't forget to come back tomorrow with your We Can Do It Cheaper projects too. Can't wait to see what you have this week.

Adding The Small Touches

First of all, I have been having countless problems with blogger of late, so that is my first excuse....

Now,I apologize heartily for being so sporadic these days. I have been running around doing waaaay too many projects for which I am apologizing and enjoying the new warm weather for which I do not apologize at all! Spring has arrived in Texas and I am very thankful.

I am working on a new line of art for... something (shhh, I can't say yet) and decided to make one for myself.

In real life you can't tell that the "sea" is crooked.

In real life it makes me happy each time I see it on the wall.

In picture life it doesn't meet all my expectations, so I shall go gaze at it in real life again...

Hope your week is starting off jollier than ever!

Bathroom Reveal

I thought this day would never arive! I'm still not sure it has since there are still a few things I would like to do. A tweak here and tweak there. I can never be truly finished with anything. Just ask me about my laundry...

So remember this room a few months back?

Then this as we started the transformation...

I had no idea what style of bathroom I was going for when we started this, I only knew the colors I was going to use. As we worked on it then things kinda fell into place and I settled on what I would call a vintage beach theme. Check out what we did and let me know what you think. I'm so glad it's now "finished" and I can move on to other things. I do plan on painting the shelf I have in there white at some time, but that will have to wait.

Hover over these images to see the before and after. (sorry they're not centered, couldn't quite get there)

Now on to my boy's rooms....

IT IS!!... almost finished..

Tonight my man finished putting board and batten up in the bathroom! Oooh, I just noticed my paintbrush sneaking around the corner, trying to make a dive into the paint can, his little bristles itching to start. Alas, it is not to be. It's Saturday night, the boys are in the bath, pork loin in the oven for tomorrow, no time for that itchy paintbrush. I can't wait to get pictures of it up once it's all painted though. Visit me sometime later this week to see the finished look!

Bathroom Redo

My biggest and slowest project right now is our boys bathroom. I have been taking my sweet time on it, mainly because it is a little hard to paint and cut wood with two little boys around. Excuses aside now, I'm being really slow, but I'll show you where it started and where it is now...

Before (previous owners):

Where we are now:

I think there is some extra little hands in there, but you get the idea. So far all I have done is take down the wallpaper, start painting a custom color blue from Home Depot and repaint the mirror. Next up I will be finishing the painting, put up board and batten and hang some curtains. Right now it looks worse than when I started, but we're headed in the right direction. We'll see what happens from here.
