DIY Vintage Style Labels

I have a profound love for old apothecary bottles and jars.
I just want to eat them up.
{How hard can it be to remove glass from your tongue, lips, gums, stomach lining...}

I found two sets of neat free labels and decided it was time to label the world with beautiful, coffee stained apothecary labels.

I was looong overdue (or perhaps very early?) on a present for my lil' sister.
I am an awful, horrible, no-good person at picking out presents for my sisters.
This was a shot in the dark.
(and no, the sign was not a hint. She told me she wanted it for her kids bathroom)

Hobby Lobby helped me out with all the jars (and the basket).
You can find the herb labels and staining instructions here.
Or let your kids make up their own staining instructions.
Heaven knows my kids have perfected the art!

I had a few random bottles in the bathroom that needed a beauty mark.
You can find these kind here.
Umm, no I don't keep syrup in the bathroom.
Who cares when you look so pretty?

These little jars all headed to market.
We'll see if they come home or not:-)

I attached all my labels with just a bit of modge podge smeared on the backs of them.
So go stick a label on something.

By the way you people...

Catch that Clutter

One little corner of our kitchen counter is the catch all of clutter.
Mail, coupons, cell phones and chargers just sort of migrate here.
I had actually emptied the basket here.

It drives me crazy to say the least and the little basket there wasn't doing his job.

In comes this little wood caddy from Hobby Lobby (it was around $2-$3 dollars).
I think I had picked it up for some random project that never happened.
At some point I had let my 4 year old "paint" it for me.

It has not been a miracle cure, but it's doing its part to save my sanity, one piece of clutter at a time.

The Low Down On Painting Stripes

I live in Texas. I love living in Texas.

Except...
For some reason they don't know how to have untextured walls here. Walls are textured. They just are. No questions asked.

So, have you painted stripes on textured walls? It can be a mess if you don't take one small extra step.
First of all I figured out the width I wanted to do my stripes. (Pretty simple with a little math...and a calculator)

Then I got a tape measure and starting measuring out my lines by making small marks on the wall with a pencil, then just taking my painters tape and running it from mark to mark. They aren't perfect but it sure beat the other option of taking a level and drawing lines allllll the way down each and every stripe.

Just make SURE you tape off the stripes you are going to paint!! What I mean is that when you tape off then you make sure your tape is on the outside of the stripes you are painting. So when you look at the stripes all taped up there then they will look uneven because you taped the outside of one and the inside of the next. I just made that waaay more confusing than it actually is.
After I applied my tape then I took some of the wall color paint and "sealed" the painters tape so that when I painted my stripe color then it would not leak through. This is the step that is SUPER helpful if you have textured walls. It really doesn't take long at all either.
If you are a perfectionist then this job may possibly drive you crazy, but for a gal like me that just likes to get it done....well it really wasn't too bad at all.
Go for it!

How Do You Hobby Lobby?

So yesterday I was at Hobby Lobby.
*do you hear bells? I swear I hear bells chiming each time I type "Hobby Lobby"*
As I was saying... My dear husband waited in the car as I "ran in real quick" to the blessed store (bless him as well, really, for it was not "real quick").

As I was walking out I peaked over my bags and observed a woman walking into the store. Her arms were crossed tightly in front and she was walking quickly but without enthusiasm.

And it made me think....

HOW DO YOU HOBBY LOBBY?

I will give you some choices:

1. as the woman I described above. (are you ill, was there a death in the family?)

2. with a bounce in your step, arms swinging by your side and a slightly mental smile on your face? (aaahhhhh, now that's more like it.)

3. as you're pulling up into the parking lot your door comes open with such force that it pops the hinges. You come flying out, hair askew and car still in the "D" position. Other customers clear a path for you as your paint splattered arms reach out to sweep items off the shelves. Your excitement reaches a feverish pitch as you pay and scream out "I ONLY SPENT $325.82?!!! Then you head back for more.
Somewhere out there in the parking lot your little minivan is doing donuts. (now that's what I call a true Hobby Lobbyer!!! Thumbs up to you my friend!)

So how did you spend your weekend? Leave a comment to tell me what you love about Hobby Lobby and if you don't have one in your area then we'll send out the National Guard.
Then scroll down and leave another comment for my giveaway, while you're at it click on "Become a Hobby Lobby Fanatic Follower Right Now".

Perfect.
P.S. Did you know you can shop online as well?
