My Baby Bedding Dream...

In the words of Martin Luther King, "I have a dream!". Ok, so our dreams aren't quite the same, but it is still a dream none the less.

When we had our son four years ago I searched and searched for baby bedding that I liked and could also afford. Nada, zip, nothing.

There was stuff like this by the bucketful...

Now don't get me wrong if this is your style then I'm good with that. It just wasn't what I wanted.

That is where my dream began. I dream of creating a line of baby bedding that is both affordable and adorable. I want baby bedding that makes you think of lemony sunshine filtering through the curtains. Of crisp cotton snapping on the clothesline on a hot summer day. Of white sand and foamy green waves. Then the sweet smell of baby's breath, the curl of their tiny fingers over yours, the look of delicate lashes on sweet chubby cheeks.
I want to make something that looks like this beautiful bed from Melanie's guest bedroom.

Serena & Lily is the closets that I have seen so far, but unfortunately it is out of my price range. (Lets face it, I'm very cheap and $100 for bedding is out of my range.)

So now you know my dream. The thing is, it's actually within my grasp in a way. I could design them and sew them and sell them on Etsy. But I do hate to sew and I don't know if they would sell and I don't know that I could make them as affordable as I would like since fabric and time would take up a considerable amount of $$.

Meanwhile I'll keep on dreaming. Let me know if you've ever looked for baby bedding like this to. I would love to hear if you found it...

Decent crib bedding--and twin bedding, for that matter--that is both cute and affordable is so hard to come by! Right now I'm using a plain crib sheet and a homemade dust ruffle. Maybe if you designed them, someone else could do the sewing? I'd be very interested in your Etsy shop!

See, you just need to butter up my mom, she made all 3 of us crib sets just like we wanted. You tell her what you want, and I bet she can do it. The hardest part would be in asking, I know. But really, I bet she would do it. I totally agree with you on the whole baby bedding thing, it is so expensive!!

I would love to see you do this! There has to be something out there that is both beautiful and affordable and your wishes are perfect!! I am not having any more children but I just like to look! :)

Please make them and sell them b/c I am in the market and am searching frantically to design our nursery! I'm coming up empty everywhere I turn. Everything is so "cutesy" and tacky! Great idea!

You design, I'll sew. I wish.

Being one who loves to sew, I think it sounds like fun. I also had a hard time finding stuff for Baby A.'s room. I ended up making his bumper pad and curtain.

when both of my babes were born, i dreamed of having a beautiful nursery with the perfect bedding, etc....but that just wasn't in the cards. I do hear where you are coming from though. It would be nice to have a room and bedding that is so peaceful that you won't mind getting up in the middle of the night to do feedings. take a look over at Restoration hardwares bedding. They have two collections that i think are timeless that would look lovely for either a boy or girl. throw in some white, airy or eyelet fabric and you can call it done. If you are considering to make your dream come true, I can reccommend a good seamstress for you. In the meantime check out these links.

Aunt Misty sews and offeres to sew in place of knitted blanket for child#3 if you choose.

In all seriousness, ALL BEDDING is expensive. I did break down and buy my duvet cover from Simple Things...It wasn't worth trying to find like fabric and the time, even though not cheap. Pillow, I love to make! Its fun to be creative. I like the middle pictures...absolutely lovely!!!

I will help you if you come up with the ideas!

Here is one idea. If you can find the fabric that you like in sheets, then use them for the fabric on your bedding. I have taken two flat full sheets, sewn them together on three sides and use them for a duvet cover for the feather comforter. It changes the color, texture, etc and you can embellish them as you wish. Older napkins, crocheted doilies, bits of lace or tatting could add interest if that is what you are looking for.

As to designing you own bedding line, that would be quite an undertaking for me, you... I know could handle it with ease. Great idea - run with it.
